Risk Factors of Vein Disease

Here are the risk factors of vein disease which increase the risk of developing varicosities.

Age – venous disease becomes more common as we age.

Gender – women are much more likely to develop varicosities because of hormonal changes during pregnancy. Female hormones promote vein relaxation leading to insufficiency.

Genetics – if you have family members with venous disease you are at a higher risk of also developing varicosities.

Obesity – increases pressure on veins. Standing or sitting for long periods of time.
